The one-day visit will take place in several sites of the island starting from the famous factory of plastics (PLASTIKA KRITIS) in the outskirts of Heraklion.
Then the scientific group will depart to the Ierapetra famous vegetable production center of Crete. On the way to the final destination to Ierapetra will pay a short visit to the Ancient Minoan city of the Gournia (3,500 years old).
A visit to two leading vegetable rootstock and plantlets nursery of Agris company and then the seed company Rijk Zwaan will follow.
A light lunch will be offered by the two hosting companies at Ierapetra.
An afternoon visit to three typical agricultural production glasshouses for high quality vegetables and flower production, (mainly of cucumber, tomato and pepper) in soil or in hydroponics and to a soil solarization application. During the visit you will appreciate the vegetable and flower production in an area of over 2.000 hectares, where the application of new technologies and agricultural practices are adopted for sustainable production.
